Journey to Miller

Welcome to our blog!

We are the Rohrs family. We are a family of 5...about to be 6! We have 3 awesome kids. Our son Taylor is 14, a freshman in HS, tall, handsome, sweet at times and has ( imho) ridiculously big feet;o) Regan is 11 and she is our Irish beauty. Red hair, green eyes, and the greatest sister in the world. (Although her brother may take issue with that statement!) Little Ms. Delaney Liu (a.k.a. "Her Highness") is our 4 year old Chinese princess. She is from Guangxi, China. She has a short fuse, doesn't like mornings, and has the most incredible laugh and an amazing smile that lights up the world. They all light up OUR world! We are just beginning the "paperchase" to bring home a new member to this crazy clan, Miller Shao Jie. He is an absolutely adorable 6 year old who is presently residing in Guangzhou SWI in Guangdong province, China. Here's how we found Miller, or, rather how he found us!
A few months ago, Randy and I started talking about how nice it would be to bring a younger sibling home . Actually, Delaney has had a "younger sister" she calls Jia for several months. She would talk about her all the time! It was after one of these "conversations" with Laney Liu where she talks at us nonstop and we nod our heads every once in awhile that we began thinking about the possibility of adding to our family. We began checking the groups again and our agency's website(CCAI) to see what the current wait times were, if there were any changes, etc. We saw that the wait times were increasing so we agreed to send in our application now and take advantage of the extra time to prepare our dossier, not to mention the bank account! Not long after we decided we were going to send in our application, I received a request from our agency to write a few paragraphs about our journey to Delaney to share with the waiting families. It would be listed on their site under "Worth the Wait."
As I was navigating the site, I found myself involuntarily clicking on the WC (waiting children) profiles and there he was.... this little face staring out of my computer screen. I felt like he was speaking to me. "Hi mom, it's me your son. It's about time you made it over here to see my picture. I've been waiting a loooong time!" I called my husband downstairs to look, fully expecting him to be the voice of reason. "We just decided to send in the application.....I thought we were going to take our time....We want a YOUNGER sibling.....another daughter...." those were the thoughts going through my head and I fully trusted that those were things that would come out of his mouth. They didn't. Over the next 6 weeks or so, I found myself checking the site everyday with mixed feelings. Hoping he had found his forever family, and yet praying he was still available. My husband and I talked about him everyday. Finally, we sent an email requesting his information and then emailed several of our yahoo groups that we were considering him. We received over 50 responses from people who had also been touched by him. The overall consensus was that if once they were home with their new child, he would be their next as soon as it could be done. I also received a forwarded message that was posted on another group. It asked if there was anyone showing interest in Shao Jie , to please email her. She had a friend who had just returned from China with her daughter from the same orphanage. This friend had recent pictures and information on him. We couldn't wait to see them! I contacted Brenda, and she was nice enough to forward these pictures. Our hearts melted even more. He was definitely looking right into our soul. According to the orphanage staff, Shao Jie and Brenda's daughter Hannah had been inseperable. Brenda said that Hannah misses him very much, and they had made it a mission to find his forever family. She gave me the link to her blog and she spoke of him in her posts. It was an amazing feeling to know that she was talking about our little guy! We had corresponded several times before I mentioned that we lived in W.MI. She wrote back .." you won't believe this but we are from W. MI too. What city do you live in?" We were all stunned to learn that we are within 30 minutes of one another. To realize that these two beautiful children who loved one another so much will travel 1/2 way around the world to find their forever families and be able to see each other again...with their FAMILIES....is just amazing. It is always awe inspiring to see God at work and we have no doubt that this is indeed God's work! So with a HUGE leap of faith, we are beginning our paperwork to bring Miller home. Thanks for reading our story. I will keep this blog updated as things happen, and I will try to figure out how I can add some photos soon! Thanks, Gail
